MICE, tourism in Bucaramanga

18 of April of 2017

Santander´s capital city already has 51 important events scheduled for the next 3 years, and it’s expecting to receive almost 31.750 assistants. In addition, it should be clarified that these figures only refer to the events achieved through the management of the Bucaramanga Convention and Visitors Bureau, so it is estimated that by the end of 2017, the figure would increase significantly.

According to the Bucaramanga Chamber of Commerce, the number of companies dedicated to the events organization and logistics have increased proportionally to the growing number of meetings, congresses, forums, conventions and business rounds. Only in the metropolitan area of Bucaramanga, between 2015 and 2017, 237 new companies dedicated to the "organization of commercial events" were registered and, at the same time, 232 new companies dedicated to "event catering" were registered.

For this reason, the accelerated growth in meetings and events in the city represents important business opportunities for entrepreneurs in the region, promoting as well formal employment, economic development and the promotion of the department as a tourist destination. The Bucaramanga Chamber of Commerce has thus foreseen this exponential growth intending that these new companies are sustainable over time and that in addition, can grow physically, economically and operationally.

In response to this growth, the Bucaramanga Chamber of Commerce, in agreement with the Pontifical Xavierian University, will offer the Diploma in Events Organization, focused on the planning, execution, production and measurement of corporate events of different nature, such as Institutional, large-scale, cultural, academic and fair events.

"The Bureau represents the productive chain of goods, services and touristic activities in the region, contributing to its development and the creation of a touristic product that incorporates the chain according to the destination “commented María Alejandra Sampayo.

In this way, people will be able to have the necessary knowledge to implement new technologies, integrating trends, audiovisual equipment and assemblies that are at the forefront, generating high impact results
