Bucaramanga Convention and Visitors Bureau

Under the leadership of the Mayor Office of Bucaramanga, Santander’s government and the Bucaramanga Chamber of Commerce, the office was created with the aim of promoting the department of Santander and the metropolitan area as a touristic destination for meetings, events, conventions, fairs and exhibitions that generate incentives for the business and corporate tourism sector.

This initiative was born after a consultancy carried out by Procolombia and the CBI of Holland. 5 strategic products of Santander related to historical, cultural, incentives, adventure and health tourism were identified as potential for the promotion of the region. From this study it originates the need to create a convention Bureau  that is responsible for joining  these products in a single offer.

The Bucaramanga Convention and Visitors Bureau works hand in hand with the vibrant dynamics of the Bucaramanga Chamber of Commerce, as these are aligned with the strategy of attracting events. For this promotion agency, the focus is attracting events in health, construction, agroindustry and oil and gas sectors, although the Bureau expects to expand the spectrum, including sectors such as tourism, IT and education as important dynamics to attract events.

The Bureau's management includes a strategic alliance with Procolombia's to look for events around the world promotional spaces in different parts of the world  , with the potential to offer Santander as a single world-class touristic destination.

The promotion strategy  of the Bureau is primarily to work with Procolombia in all strategic international tourism scenarios such as fairs, trade missions, seminars and workshops to make the department and its attractions more visible; Secondly the associativity model with associations to change the mindset surrounding the benefits of the implementation of tourism events in the capital of Santander.

The Convention Bureau was created by the Bucaramanga Chamber of Commerce, Acodres and Cotelco, and has the support from the Municipipality and the Goverment,  which are committed to promote this mega initiative. However, other leaders of the region who are part of the region's touristic production chain , may also become adherent members.

Within the management of the Bureau, actions are being carried out such as bringing national and international events, attracting new international routes on connectivity issues, attracting a higher hotel capacity and strengthening more investment in tourist attractions.

Colombia occupies the 25th position of ICCA, the most important ranking in MICE industry, and the idea is that with this promotion agency, Santander will join this ranking. For this reason the Bureau has managed to get two ICCA events for the city and currently continues proactively working to host more events in order to become "the articulator of the entire production chain and supply of the tourism sector in Santander ," said María Alejandra Sampayo, director of Bucaramanga Convention and Visitors Bureau.
